FUND ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN TO DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF GRANTS WE MAKE…... .....You Can Help!
Thanks to two very generous donors who have gotten the Funds’ grant making program off to a tremendous start. We are pleased to reach out to Long Islanders to join us to make a difference in the lives of women and their families across Long Island by making a donation today! We have an ambitious program to double both the size of the grants and the number of grants we make. Last year we funded only one-fourth of the really outstanding applications we received. With your generous help, we can fund twice as many organizations…and more grassroots organizations …to have a real impact on the island. We are the only group on Long Island that spends 100% of its grants on women and girls. Won’t you make us your #1 priority by making a donation today? Donate online from our homepage or call the Fund office 516.396.9857 ext. 117. To learn more about our grants program and wonderful past grantees visit our website Grantmaking pages.

Fund WOJ Initiative supports National Pay Equity Day Awareness April 22nd
With thousands of Pay Day Candy Bars (a product of Hershey Corporation) and literature in hand, the Fund's Women on the Job Initiative once again ran a successful educational campaign for pay equity awareness by visiting railroad stations, legislative offices, and colleges and universities across Long Island on April 22nd, National Equal Pay Day 2008. National Equal Pay Day was originated by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men's and women's wages. The day, observed annually on a specific Tuesday in April, symbolizes how far into the year a woman must work, on average, to earn as much as a man earned the previous year. According to a February study conducted by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research entitled Still a Man’s Labor Market: the Long-Term Earnings Gap, a typical woman who worked full-time in 2005 still only earned 77 cents for each dollar that the typical man earned that same year. WOJ’s educational campaign acknowledging this day reaffirms the project’s commitment to justice and equality in the workplace for all working women and calls upon everyone to recognize the full value of the skills and contributions of women in the labor force. It also emphasizes the need for employers to review their wage practices to ensure that all their employees are paid equitably for their work. View our photo gallery......

National Equal Pay Day 2008--Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Did you know that National Equal Pay Day was first recognized in 1998 by President Clinton and was proclaimed the "day on which a typical woman's earnings, when added to her previous year's wages, will finally equal what the typical man earned in the previous year alone"? According to an April 2007 study conducted by the IWPR, the ratio of women's to men's median annual earnings was 77 cents to the dollar in 2005. National Equal Pay Day calls upon everyone to recognize the full value of the skills and contributions of women in the labor force and for employers to review their wage practices to ensure that all their employees are paid equitably for their work. Women on the Job will once again recognize National Equal Pay Day by organizing a public awareness campaign about the importance of this day and the issue of pay equity. Look for the WOJ Task Force Member Organizations at colleges and universities across Nassau & Suffolk Counties. For more information about National Equal Pay Day or how you can become a part of our campaign, contact Fran Medaglia at 516-396-9857 Ext. 9.

On Tuesday, December 4th, Dr. William Crain spoke to the public about using a child-centered approach to early childhood development by taking cues from children’s spontaneous interests to help them make their own discoveries, build a strong sense of self, and develop an enthusiasm for learning. Dr. Crain shared in the belief that the most important years are the early years, ages 0 to 5, and it is necessary for the child to enjoy the present, playing and exploring, from which a strong foundation will be created.
