Gender Equity (GE) in Education Project
The goal of the Gender Equity (GE) in Education Project is to eliminate school and work-based gender inequities. By partnering with and being a resource to Long Island school districts and the business community, we hope to further examine practices and programs for gender fairness and serve as a resource to business to promote best practices. In this way, we are helping to fulfill their need for talent while also investing in the economic stability of Long Island’s workforce and economy.
Through funding of programs, projects, services and initiatives, as well as collaborative educational efforts, the program highlights the issues of gender equity in education and encourages girls and young women to pursue math, science, engineering, technology, non-traditional trades and sports.
Through LIFWG’s Grantmaking Program, Long Island communities have received much-needed financial support of over $176,585 to date for 48 specialized programs for women and girls. These initiatives deal with problems of harassment in schools or the workplace, the rise in bullying and/or gang-related violence, to increasing education and awareness about high-paying yet non-traditional careers for women and girls. For more information regarding our grants, please visit our Grantmaking section.
GE provides lessons learned from women's history in education and employment to further support advocacy and empowerment, leadership and civic responsibility and to reaffirm a bedrock belief that individuals have power, that one voice can still be heard and that singly and as a group, girls and young women can make a difference.
